Job Description
Position Overview
As a Global Quality Engineer at 3M for the Advanced Materials and Transportation Product Platform (AMTPP), you will collaborate with innovative 3Mers around the world. This role offers an opportunity to transition from diverse sectors into a dynamic career where you will support quality assurance and continuous improvement throughout new product introductions and product evolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Support quality for New Product Introduction (NPI) teams in the automotive industry, including leading HOQ/DQM, MSA, product qualifications, PPAP, PFMEA/DFMEA and phase gate quality preparation.
- Assure compliance with the 3M Code of Conduct, external regulations, customer requirements, internal standards, and industry certifications (e.g., ISO9001, IATF16949).
- Facilitate existing product evolution and improvement through change management (CMP).
- Analyze data using statistical techniques and serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in these methods.
- Promote continuous improvement and defect reduction through root cause investigations, CAPA, kaizen, 8D, FMEA, MSA, and Control Plans.
- Review customer product complaints to provide timely feedback and resolution.
- Collaborate with global customer account teams and cross-functional business leaders in supply chain, manufacturing, laboratory, quality, and sales.
- Align customer scorecard Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with internal metrics and participate in internal and external quality system audits.
- Support export-controlled products, ensuring compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field (completed and verified prior to start).
- Five (5) years of combined Quality Engineering, Product Engineering, and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience in private, public, government, or military environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Statistics with a keen interest in pursuing new career opportunities.
- Experience with LEAN Six Sigma methodology and quality/statistical tools.
- American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification such as Quality Engineer (CQE) or willingness to obtain certification.
- Proven experience with 8D/5Why problem solving and familiarity with automotive Core Tools (PPAP, APQP, MSA, SPC, FMEA).
- IATF or VDA Certified Auditor credentials within the last 3 years.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a strong ability to work in cross-functional global teams.
