Position Overview

Join the Department of Revenue’s Audit Division in Seattle, WA, as a Revenue Auditor. In this dynamic role you can be hired either at the professional level as Revenue Auditor 2 or at an in‐training level (Revenue Auditor 1) with a clear path to advancement. You will play a vital role in ensuring that businesses comply with tax laws, helping secure the funds that support key state programs. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed audits of businesses and their subsidiaries to ensure compliance with Washington tax laws.
  • Perform complex analyses including research on nexus and compliance, and document findings using advanced Excel functions.
  • Travel regionally to meet businesses, evaluate accounting records, and provide education on tax compliance.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team, including participation in training audits for in‐training employees.
  • Collaborate with senior auditors to ensure consistent interpretation and application of tax laws.

Required Qualifications

  • For Revenue Auditor 2 (Professional Level):
    • Seven years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, tax compliance, or tax administration; OR
    • A bachelor’s degree in accounting with three years of relevant experience; OR
    • Two years of experience with the Department of Revenue in auditing, compliance, or tax administration; OR
    • Completion of 24 semester/36 quarter hours of college-level accounting (with at least one Business Law course) plus three years of relevant experience (or two years with DOR experience).
  • For Revenue Auditor In-Training (Revenue Auditor 1 Level):
    • Four years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, tax compliance, or tax administration; OR
    • A bachelor’s degree in accounting; OR
    • Completion of 24 semester/36 quarter hours of college-level accounting (with at least one Business Law course).
