Job Description
Position Overview
We're looking for a Senior AWS Engineer to architect and manage cloud infrastructure, automate deployment processes, and optimize our AWS environment. You will work within a collaborative team at Security Benefit – a leader in the U.S. retirement market managing over $55 billion in assets – and drive the future of the U.S. retirement industry. This role offers the flexibility of a hybrid schedule, with options to work remotely or in our Overland Park, Kansas office.
Key Responsibilities
- (Primary) Cloud Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and maintain AWS infrastructure—including EC2, VPC, RDS, S3, Lambda, Amplify, CloudWatch, CLI, and API integrations—using Infrastructure as Code. Monitor system performance and implement optimizations for high availability and reliability. Experience with AWS serverless technologies is a plus.
- (Primary) DevSecOps Automation: Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform in GitLab CI/CD pipelines. Automate routine tasks and employ AWS security best practices while integrating monitoring solutions with CloudWatch, AWS Systems Manager, and third-party tools.
- (Secondary) Dynatrace Administration: Manage the Dynatrace observability platform—including One Agent implementation, configurations, and APM—by creating intelligent dashboards, configuring AI-powered alerting, and performing performance analysis to proactively resolve issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field and 5–7 years of hands-on experience with AWS services; OR 7–10 years of related professional experience in lieu of a degree.
- 5–6 years of experience supporting AWS environments in production, with strong knowledge of networking concepts, security principles, and Linux/Unix systems.
- 3–4 years of experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code and GitLab.
- Strong proficiency in Python.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer) are a plus.
- 2 years’ experience with infrastructure observability platforms such as Dynatrace, Datadog, or similar tools.
- 2 years’ experience in an Agile development environment.
- 2–4 years’ experience with incident management and on-call escalation support.
