Position Overview
Harris Health System, established in 1966, is the public healthcare safety‐net provider serving Harris County, Texas. Its flagship hospitals, Ben Taub Hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center) and Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital (Level 3 Trauma Center), anchor a robust network of clinics, health centers, specialty locations, and telemedicine technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair biomedical equipment.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, IT teams, and vendors to support medical equipment and patient care initiatives.
- Ensure the proper operation and safety of medical devices.
- Operate and maintain a wide range of biomedical equipment including Electrosurgical units, Defibrillators, Fetal Monitors, Incubators (Infant), Oximeters (Spo2), Pacemakers (External Invasive), Physiologic Monitoring Systems, Tourniquets, Transcutaneous Oxygen Monitors, Ambulatory ECG Monitors, Electroencephalographs, Phototherapy Units, Clinic Scales, Electronic Sphygmomanometers, Microscopes, Surgical OR tables, and Laboratory equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Degree/Experience: Associates Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, or a related field with three (3) years experience OR HS/GED with five (5) years in biomedical equipment maintenance and repair or equivalent military training.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with heavy public contact; proven ability in writing service reports and documenting maintenance activities.
- Experience with medical device networking and integration with hospital IT systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as FDA, NFPA, CMS, and AAMI.
- Intermediate troubleshooting and repair skills using diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, signal generators).
- Solid understanding of electronic circuits, mechanical systems, and patient monitoring equipment.
- Ability to interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Basic networking principles related to medical devices.
- Critical thinking abilities with the capacity to work independently while managing multiple tasks.
- Commitment to patient safety and strict adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Work Schedule: Flexibility to work weekends and be on call.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification is preferred.
