Job Description

Position Overview

Responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs on company vehicles and small equipment used in fire sprinkler installations and service work. This role ensures all fleet vehicles operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with safety and company standards. The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, and safety-focused with experience working on utility trucks, vans, and small construction equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on company fleet vehicles (vans, trucks, trailers).
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and manual troubleshooting.
  • Conduct oil changes, tire rotations, brake replacements, engine diagnostics, and other mechanical repairs.
  • Maintain service records and track maintenance schedules for all fleet assets.
  • Assist in managing inventory of parts and tools required for maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet regulatory and safety compliance, including DOT inspections.
  • Respond to service calls for fleet vehicle breakdowns during business hours (occasional after-hours work may be required).
  • Assist with vehicle upfitting for fire sprinkler crews, including installation of racks, shelving, and decals.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors for specialty repairs when necessary.
  • Keep the maintenance area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Support other operational tasks as needed.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform tasks such as walking, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret vehicle service manuals and schematics.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • 3+ years of experience as an automotive or fleet mechanic (experience with construction vehicles preferred).
  • Familiarity with vehicle tracking software and maintenance logs.
  • Welding or fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is helpful.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; a combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including constant walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, and using power tools.

Benefits & Perks

  • Compensation: $24.00 - $34.00 per hour.
  • Classification: Non-Exempt, In Person, Full Time.
  • Supervisory: Non-supervisory role.
  • Reports to: Fleet Services Division Manager.
