Job Description

Position Overview

AWS Infrastructure Services designs, plans, delivers, and operates all AWS global infrastructure. As a Data Center Technician in the ORD Data Center Operations team, you will be the primary resolver for troubleshooting a range of datacenter infrastructure issues—from hardware and fiber to networking challenges. You’ll work on maintaining one of the world's largest information system infrastructures and support physical data center activities while upholding the highest standards of safety and security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in physical data center activities including capacity planning, rack deployment, rack cabling, hardware/software troubleshooting, and rack decommissioning.
  • Lift and move materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Work in cramped and/or elevated locations, and in noisy environments.
  • Perform bending, stretching, and reaching tasks, as well as stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8+ hours).
  • Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely.
  • Fulfill shift work requirements, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7 operations.
  • Take ownership of technical issues, engaging other teams when needed to drive timely resolution.
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills by addressing issues at their root while understanding the broader context.
  • Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting, while innovating for improved process effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

  • 1+ years of Linux operating systems experience
  • Associate's degree in an IT-related field or equivalent professional/military experience
  • 2+ years of experience with server hardware

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a data center environment (racking/stacking gear, cable management, hot/cold aisle containment)
  • Hands-on experience with hardware platforms such as Dell or HP
  • Networking experience with CCNA and/or Network+ certifications
  • Associate's degree in an IT-related field combined with two years of progressively responsible experience
