Job Description
Position Overview
The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) plays a key role in supporting individuals receiving behavioral health services. The BHT assists with the implementation of individualized treatment plans, ensures the safety and well-being of clients, and promotes a structured, therapeutic environment conducive to recovery and stabilization. This position works under the supervision of licensed clinical or medical professionals and collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team to reinforce therapeutic goals and interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care, supervision, and support to clients in residential, outpatient, or crisis stabilization settings.
- Monitor client behavior, mood, and engagement; document observations and report significant changes to clinical staff.
- Assist clients in developing daily living skills, coping mechanisms, and positive behavioral patterns.
- Conduct safety checks and participate in crisis intervention or de-escalation when necessary, following established protocols.
- Support clients in adhering to treatment plans and medication schedules as directed by clinical staff.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational and skills-building groups as assigned.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency policy and regulatory standards.
- Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and organization of the treatment environment.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and staff training to support professional growth and program development.
- Uphold confidentiality and adhere to all ethical and professional standards in client interactions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid, CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), or equivalent certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations.
- Basic computer literacy and documentation accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
- Prior experience working in behavioral health, residential care, or social services.
- Experience in crisis management and group facilitation.
