Job Description

Position Overview

We are currently seeking applications for a Project Engineer II (Assistant Project Manager) for both traveling and on-site roles in the Washington D.C. – Baltimore area. Kickstart your career in project management! In this entry-level position, you will support project managers in coordinating projects by utilizing engineering skills, labor, equipment, materials, tools, and subcontracted services to help develop skills in estimating, scheduling, and design within the design-build construction process. This opportunity is with a leading mechanical contractor specializing in integrated building solutions, offering services in engineering, construction, energy, and facility maintenance with an innovative, sustainable, and people-first culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating field labor
  • Provide labor feedback
  • Procure equipment and subcontractors
  • Manage document control
  • Coordinate design, trade, and subcontractors
  • Support budget analysis, cost, and margin projections
  • Help develop project schedules

Required Qualifications

  • Eagerness to learn with a strong work ethic
  • Basic skills in JDE (job cost reports, labor feedback entry, purchase order entry)
  • Basic HVAC design knowledge (equipment types, system operations)
  • Ability to read mechanical and plumbing drawings
  • Competency in business writing and public speaking
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Effective communication skills for vendor and supplier management
  • Ability to write and track RFIs with field foremen and design departments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management
  • 1-3 years of related experience for Project Engineer I
  • 3-5 years of related experience for Project Engineer II
  • Experience with a mechanical contractor or as a design engineer
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and design
  • Design-build experience is a plus!
