In the role of SME, ENGINEERING SERVICES (CIVIL), the Civil Engineering Lead will leverage deep civil engineering expertise to lead complex engineering tasks on large-scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage System projects. This position is critical to ensuring technical accuracy, constructability, and the effective incorporation of lessons learned into standards and processes while collaborating cross-functionally to support preconstruction efforts and resolve field issues.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with safety standards across all engineering tasks and support the team in proactively addressing safety concerns.
- Own the civil basis of design and technical standards, ensuring consistency, constructability, and compliance across projects.
- Validate geotechnical and grading frameworks and drive testing methodologies that anticipate field issues.
- Provide quality oversight of civil deliverables, approving deviations when justified and ensuring field learnings are integrated into standards.
- Consult with Senior SMEs on industry advancements, ensuring internal processes remain best-in-class.
- Coordinate complex field troubleshooting by collaborating with Engineering Management, Engineers of Record, and site operations.
- Lead design reviews with final accountability for civil inputs and alignment with EPC execution strategies.
- Drive the execution of lessons learned initiatives and develop tools/workflows to improve internal processes.
- Review geotechnical, hydrology, and stormwater management reports to assess project risks and influence cost estimating.
- Collaborate closely with field teams to develop earthwork and foundation plans that satisfy design requirements and site constraints.
- Mentor the Civil Engineering Services team and serve as an escalation point for technical issues.
- Recommend innovative and cost-efficient technical approaches to reduce rework and optimize project outcomes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM, engineering, a technical field, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of Civil Engineering experience.
- At least 2 years in a management or leadership role.
- 3+ years of experience in the utility-scale solar industry.
- Broad understanding of related fields to enable effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Familiarity with industry codes, compliance standards, and project lifecycle documentation.
- Proficiency in Excel, GIS software, and design/drafting tools (CAD).
- Strong technical review, problem-solving, and leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Willingness to travel as needed (up to 25% for remote roles and up to 5% for office-based roles).
