Position Overview
Performs assigned patient care and related administrative duties under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, APRN, or PA. This role involves a variety of office and clinical tasks such as preparing patients for examination, assisting with tests and procedures, and providing patient education. Work Shift: Day (United States of America), Location: Heritage Peds/Int Med - Wren, Facility: 2350 Heritage Ped/Int Med - Wren, Department: 23501000 Heritage Ped/Int Med - Wren-Practice Operations.
Key Responsibilities

- Perform clinical, technical, administrative, and clerical duties—including point of care testing, receiving and documenting critical lab values.
- Prepare patients for examination and treatment by recording chief complaints, current medications, vital signs, pain screening, and allergies, and pends orders for physician signature.
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms; maintain supplies and equipment, including cleaning and sterilizing instruments.
- Assist the physician with examinations, tests, procedures, and office-based surgeries, including applying splints, casts, dressings, and removing sutures.
- Prepare and administer medications and immunizations as ordered, ensuring competency in various administration methods.
- Manage clinically related telephone calls by coordinating with the physician or registered nurse.
- Provide patient education on diagnosis, self-care, health promotion, disease prevention, and community healthcare resources, and document accordingly.
- Document patient data and care in the medical record; complete registration, scheduling, billing tasks, and pre-authorizations as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant program is preferred.
- No prior experience required.
- Alternatively, successful completion of the Prisma Health Certification Institute (PHCI) Fast Track Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) program will be accepted.
- Job Related Certification required from one of the following: CMA (AAMA); RMA (AMT); CCMA (NHA); NCMA (NCCT); RMA (ARMA); NRCMA (NAHP); or RMA (AAMP).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
