Position Overview
Cardinal Health’s Global Medical Products and Distribution (GMPD) segment focuses on U.S. and International Products and Distribution businesses. We offer industry expertise and an expanding portfolio of safe, effective medical products that improve quality, manage costs, and reduce complexity. The Sales Representative – Specialty Medical Products is accountable for portfolio expansion, strengthening customer relationships, leveraging GPO contracts, and providing in-service technical, clinical, and educational support in the acute hospital setting. In this highly clinical sales role, you will serve as a trusted advisor, identify and solve customer issues, and collaborate with internal teams to drive revenue growth. Location: Buffalo – Upstate NY
Salary: $140,400 - $169,335 (includes targeted variable pay) Bonus eligible: Yes
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for driving sales and achieving sales goals across the Specialty portfolio within the assigned geography.
- Identify, qualify, prepare, and execute effective sales strategies to maintain the current business base and support the closure of competitive and revenue growth opportunities.
- Lead territory opportunity development and activities to produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual projections.
- Utilize and update sales tools to address trends in the existing business base, create call strategies, and manage territory and strategic business plans.
- Develop mastery of all products and sales applications.
- Coordinate and collaborate with field sales, marketing, and sales operations teams to drive incremental revenue and achieve target sales goals.
- Present proposals, negotiate pricing, and effectively differentiate Cardinal Health.
- Complete conversions and in-servicing, including demonstrating product applications, functionality, and usage (occasional night shifts).
- Build consultative relationships with key customers and maintain positive working relationships with external partners.
- Ensure all administrative requirements (expenses, compliance, CRM, etc.) are completed in a timely manner.
- Educate buyers and promote Cardinal Health products through participation in sales meetings, training programs, conventions, and trade shows.
- Meet and maintain the requirements of key vendor credentialing entities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the industry/competitive landscape including GPOs, healthcare economics, reimbursement, and competitors.
- Foster productive relationships with Marketing, Customer Service, and other key internal stakeholders.
- Resolve customer complaints in accordance with company policy, and notify sales management of situations beyond authority.
Required Qualifications
- Excellent phone, written, and in-person communication skills.
- A valid driver's license issued in one of the 50 States with a clean driving record.
- Ability to travel domestically and within the region, often involving overnight stays of up to one week.
- Customer/Vendor credentialing is required (this may include vaccinations).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 - 7 years of documented outside sales success in a competitive, sophisticated environment (complex capital or tangible products including medical/surgical, copiers, payroll solutions, information).
- Medical Device industry experience.
- Key account development experience accessing and developing relationships with key hospital decision-makers and influencers.
- Ability to understand complex contracting and develop a sound financial business case.
