As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will join Expedia’s Insurance and Assurance team to redefine travel experiences for millions globally. Working closely with innovative engineers and tech leadership, you will lead complex projects, mentor junior engineers, and design robust, scalable solutions that deliver secure, personalized experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate across teams and lead communities of practice to foster shared learning and cross-functional alignment.
- Guide junior engineers and occasionally step into leadership roles, supporting team growth and continuity.
- Design, test, and maintain integrated software solutions that align with business goals and technical best practices.
- Advocate for software design excellence, including the use of architectural patterns, frameworks, and operational standards like testing and SLAs.
- Analyze and improve systems holistically, applying systems thinking to optimize processes, technology, and team structures.
- Communicate complex project updates and technical insights to leadership, ensuring transparency and thorough documentation.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software development.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent related professional experience.
- Experience leading the end-to-end technical design and delivery of multiple multi-quarter projects.
- Deep expertise in multiple technologies or languages, with the ability to justify technical decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience in software development.
- Demonstrated leadership through formal mentorship, community contributions (e.g., blog posts, open source, tech talks), and cross-team collaboration.
- Skilled in designing and guiding testable, observable, and high-quality systems.
- Experience establishing operational excellence metrics at the team level.
- A strong understanding of business needs, with a track record of identifying and solving team-level technical and organizational challenges.
Benefits & Perks
- Salary: $184,500.00 to $258,000.00 with potential to increase up to $295,000.00 based on performance.
