Job Description
Position Overview
WSP is initiating a search for an Early Career Civil Roadway Engineer for office locations in Dallas-TX, Austin-TX, Houston-TX, and San Antonio-TX. Working within the Transportation & Infrastructure Team, you will assist in the design, development, and construction of various infrastructure projects including roads, bridges, tunnels, and more. This role involves technical assistance, research, documentation, and ensuring high standards in design, safety, and functionality.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, and other sources.
- Perform basic civil engineering tasks including research and inspections of site conditions, infrastructure, and transportation channels in compliance with applicable standards.
- Provide entry-level technical assistance to support various design requirements and operating strategies focused on safety and functionality.
- Help verify site characteristics and offer technical support on engineering, design, and construction issues.
- Generate accurate and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field logs.
- Comply with safety guidelines and follow site-specific procedures, including conducting surveys and studies.
- Complete required training and perform additional responsibilities as needed by business demands.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making in handling company funds and resources while adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.
- Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with design/build processes and relevant civil construction laws, codes, and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interactions with diverse audiences.
- Attention to detail, effective multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently with general supervision as well as part of a cohesive team.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and related tools.
- A proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek and occasional travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
- Prior internship experience in a related engineering field.
- Active involvement in local professional practice organizations.
