Gastroenterology focuses on treating conditions of the digestive system, and as a Healthcare Scheduler, you will coordinate appointments across multiple GI clinic locations to ensure an exceptional patient experience.
Location: Banner Health Center 4375 E Irma Ln. Phoenix, AZ 85050
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am- 4:30pm

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule medical appointments through coordination of patients, providers, facility resources, ancillary staff, records, referrals, authorizations, and payers while following established procedures.
  • Effectively schedule appointments, tests, and procedures using electronic medical record and scheduling systems, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and patient safety.
  • Obtain patient demographics, insurance information, and necessary documentation during the intake process to secure authorizations, referrals, or other required data.
  • Provide patients with information, pre and post-test instructions, appointment locations, directions, and set payment expectations to avoid surprises at the point of service.
  • Communicate effectively via phone, chat, email, and digital messaging to build positive relationships with patients, facilities, providers, and clinical colleagues.
  • Manage scanned documents and orders by labeling, storing, and ensuring compliance with each facility’s policies.
  • Collect pre-payments and verify insurance coverage as needed to facilitate a smooth patient experience.
  • Handle inbound and outbound communications for all facilities, collaborating with various departments to provide accurate managed care information.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in customer service or a related role in a healthcare setting, such as medical office/clinic, hospital scheduling, lab, medical transcription, medical assistant, or receptionist positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service in a high-paced inbound contact center environment and effectively utilize technology tools to resolve inquiries.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to follow both oral and written directions.
  • Proficient computer skills with accurate typing and familiarity with common office software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an inbound call center or as a scheduler in a practice management environment.
  • Knowledge of payor contract terms and processes.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Additional related education and/or experience is a plus.
