Job Description
Position Overview
Los Angeles County’s Internal Services Department (ISD) is seeking an exceptional candidate for the Power Plant Section. In this role, you will operate and maintain seven heating and refrigeration plants with a focus on safety, reliability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. This position is pivotal in supporting the infrastructure that keeps County operations running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Use hand tools and precision instruments to install, maintain, adjust, and repair instruments that measure and control variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, and chemical composition.
- Troubleshoot control system components and replace or repair defective parts.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and repair electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and high voltage systems and equipment.
- Perform annual testing of boilers for emissions.
- Disassemble and inspect malfunctioning instruments and test mechanisms and circuitry for defects.
- Operate, maintain, repair, and inspect both manual and automatic gas/oil fired high-pressure boilers and refrigeration units.
- Prepare drawings for the fabrication and modification of instrument parts and components.
- Maintain logs of plant operations and accurately record maintenance and repair work performed.
- Drive automotive equipment to work sites to transport the necessary tools, equipment, and materials.
Required Qualifications
- Option I: One year of experience in the maintenance and operation of high-pressure heating and refrigeration plants at the Stationary Engineer II level AND one year of experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial control instruments.
- Option II: One year of experience in plant operation at the Stationary Engineer II level AND completion of fifteen semester units (or equivalent) in technology related to the repair and maintenance of electronic, pneumatic, or hydraulic control instruments, with at least nine semester units in electronics.
- Provide clear documentation of work experience and required coursework via official transcripts or certified letters.
- Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License.
- Must hold an Unlimited Steam Engineer's License issued by the City of Los Angeles and an EPA Universal Technical Certificate in accordance with Federal license requirements (Chapter V, Section 608).
