Job Description

Position Overview

Join Our Team at Rancho BioSciences! The Data Modeler - Remote position is a full‑time role available anywhere in the USA. In this role, you will design and implement data and terminology management and governance solutions for our pharmaceutical, academic, and institutional clients, helping transform raw data into actionable insights that drive breakthroughs in drug discovery and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather requirements from customers and propose data models.
  • Define and deliver data standards, data models, terminologies, and ontologies in collaboration with solution architecture, terminology management, and curation teams.
  • Implement, leverage, and support data and terminology management solutions and best practices.
  • Collaborate with clinical scientists, statisticians, data curators, terminology experts, solution architects, and database specialists.
  • Communicate strategies, ideas, goals, and progress to customers and internal teams.
  • Plan and implement efforts to provide data curation, management, integration, and analytics solutions for laboratory and/or clinical data through terminology and ontology solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Life Sciences with expertise and first‑hand knowledge of life sciences data.
  • 3‑5 years relevant experience.
  • Understanding of data standards, semantics, terminologies, ontologies, and best practices for data governance.
  • Proven experience with Entity Relationship Diagrams and Conceptual and Logical Data Models.
  • Familiarity with UML Class Diagrams.
  • Knowledge of software such as EASparx, ERStudio, Lucid Chart, or draw.io.
  • Experience with software development life cycle methodologies, unit and integration testing, and documentation development.
  • Excellence in managing scientific stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience translating project requirements to both business process and technical solutions.
  • Independently driven, hardworking, and committed with strong communication skills at all levels.
  • Detail‑oriented and well‑organized, with the ability to work collaboratively and remotely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL or Java.
  • Familiarity with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data principles.
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases and database design.
  • Experience with public biomedical ontologies and standards consortiums (e.g., BioPortal, MedDRA, MeSH, CDISC, Allotrope).
