Job Description

Position Overview

The Ambulatory RN 2 at Rush University Medical Center (located in Chicago, Illinois) is a competent nurse who identifies patterns of patient responses and applies evidence‐based interventions to deliver high quality care. Working as part of the Home Infusion Solutions department within the Rush Medical Center business unit, the RN collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic, patient-centered care throughout the continuum. Compensation: $10.00 - $500.00 per hour. Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM). Work Type: Restricted Part Time (0-40 hours per pay period, scheduled approximately 2 weeks in advance).

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish a caring, therapeutic relationship with patients and families through effective communication and mutual goal setting.
  • Implement a plan of care that incorporates the unique cultural, spiritual, intellectual, and psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with all healthcare team members through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Utilize resources to resolve conflict and improve team relationships in support of a healthy work environment.
  • Coordinate care using the nursing process and multidisciplinary collaboration across the care continuum.
  • Apply evidence-based ambulatory care nursing interventions during clinical visits, telephone encounters, and electronic communications.
  • Communicate current evidence-based strategies, standards of care, and protocols with peers.
  • Participate in and contribute to quality initiatives, research, and development of care protocols.
  • Ensure safe and effective administration of medications and use of medical devices in patient care.
  • Apply the teaching-learning process to meet the educational and self-management needs of patients and families.
  • Assess patient safety needs and implement strategies to minimize risk during clinical interactions.
  • Recognize changes in patient status and respond effectively to optimize outcomes.
  • Identify patterns in specific patient populations that require evaluation.
  • Prioritize care for complex patients based on clinical experience.
  • Utilize competent assessment skills to evaluate the holistic needs of patients and families.
  • Establish regular communication to facilitate smooth transitions of care.
  • Demonstrate accountability for professional practice and progress toward annual goals.
  • Consider resource utilization factors when delivering patient care.
  • Support clinic goals and change initiatives by participating in nursing shared governance.
  • Collaborate with clinic personnel to ensure task completion and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provide education to clinic staff and/or students.

Required Qualifications

  • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure.
  • 3+ years nursing experience.
  • Earned nursing degree at the baccalaureate level or higher.
  • Availability for a per diem position with 0-40 hours per pay period (schedule set approximately 2 weeks in advance).
  • For transfers from other Rush entities, an earned nursing degree is required prior to transfer.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others in challenging situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outpatient clinic experience with strong telephone triage skills is a plus.
  • National certification.
