Position Overview
NSG Group/Pilkington is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join our Quality Department at our modern manufacturing facility in Niles, MI. In a fast-growing environment with new product launches and innovative investments, you will ensure that customer requirements are met and that our internal quality systems deliver exceptional glass products for automotive OEMs. If you’re passionate about quality, continuous improvement, and working with a team that values innovation and safety, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with leadership, technical team members, and operators to translate customer requirements into production specifications, control plans, and process FMEAs.
- Manage customer communications and lead corrective action response (CAR) problem solving, ensuring timely resolution of quality issues.
- Record and control nonconforming products and implement corrective and preventative actions including posting Quality Alerts.
- Perform quality audits, control plan and safety audits in compliance with IATF16949 requirements and participate in regulatory audits.
- Review and disposition supplier sample submissions, manage the SQIN database, and conduct supplier audits with follow-up action plans.
- Support production with quality meetings, problem solving, and reject/defect investigations, while facilitating GR&R’s and measurement system improvements.
- Participate in the NSG New Model Introduction (NMI) process, manage the PPAP process for glass products and changes to direct materials, and lead cost reduction activities.
- Audit, manage nonconforming tickets, and ensure that production files and records are well maintained.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent education/experience.
- 3+ years of Engineering or Quality experience in an automotive manufacturing environment (Tier 1 experience preferred).
- 3+ years of experience with IATF 16949/ISO9001 or similar quality system requirements and auditing.
- Proven ability to problem-solve using formal methodologies (8D, Fishbone, 5Why).
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and statistical software.
- Knowledge of PPAP requirements and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings/specifications.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize work, and a results-oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- IATF 16949 auditor certification.
- Prior supervisory or project management experience.
- CQE Certification.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Additional customer certification training (e.g., LPA, GIM, 5P).
