Job Description
Position Overview
As a CBRE Union Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for operating and maintaining a building’s mechanical and HVAC systems. You will ensure the proper functioning of the building’s infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The schedule is 4pm-12am, Wednesday-Sunday at One Liberty Plaza – 165 Broadway, New York, NY 10006. This role falls under the Engineering and Technical Services function, focusing on support, preventive maintenance, and timely repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Have thorough knowledge of the building’s mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure and operations.
- Perform maintenance and repairs of equipment incidental to the operation of the building’s mechanical and HVAC systems.
- Conduct general labor tasks including receiving deliveries, loading, unloading, moving materials, and stocking.
- Perform housekeeping functions within mechanical and HVAC spaces, including sweeping, mopping, and painting.
- Oversee building checks in mechanical areas and log conditions during daily rounds.
- Mentor colleagues by sharing in-depth knowledge of your field and related disciplines.
- Lead by example in accordance with CBRE RISE values and foster team consensus.
- Manage shift personnel ensuring adherence to standard policies and procedures.
- Maintain all required licenses and certificates.
- Respond quickly to emergency situations and coordinate additional assistance as needed.
- Explain difficult or sensitive information effectively.
Required Qualifications
- Mandatory Certificate of Qualification (Q-01/Q-99) for Refrigeration System Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Fire Department.
- Possession of at least five of the following certificates of fitness issued by the New York City Fire Department:
- A35 - Operate and Maintain Air Compressors
- F60 – Fire Guard for Torch Operation
- G60 – Torch Operation
- S12 – Citywide Sprinkler System
- S13 – Standpipe System
- S14 – Standpipe System, multi zone
- S95 – Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems
- F01 – Citywide Fire Guard for Impairment
- P98 – Supervise Fuel Oil Transfer
- P99 – Low Pressure Oil Burner Operator
- High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 4-5 years of job-related experience (or a combination of education and experience). Prior shift management or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements such as stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting/carrying heavy loads of 50 lbs or more.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment based on the analysis of multiple information sources.
- Willingness to consider fresh perspectives on existing solutions.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills and an inquisitive mindset.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively.
