Senior Civil Engineer (Repost)

Position Overview

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to provide technical civil/structural engineering expertise on high voltage transmission and distribution projects. This role involves coordinating design work, managing contracts, and ensuring compliance with national, state, and local standards. The position is full-time, on-site, and offers competitive compensation with Minimum Pay Rate: $141,137.00 and Maximum Pay Rate: $186,927.00.

Please note: A detailed cover letter is required addressing your experience with overhead and underground transmission/distribution line design, including AutoCAD and PLS-CADD proficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate, develop, and oversee the preparation of civil construction drawings and mapping for moderate to complex high voltage transmission and distribution systems (both underground and overhead).
• Perform moderate to complex civil design work including studies, calculations, and structural designs while applying regulatory standards and SMUD guidelines.
• Initiate, coordinate, and manage small to medium contracts acting as SMUD Contract Manager, including drafting task authorizations and interfacing with Procurement.
• Support field crews and contractors to ensure construction adheres to SMUD requirements and project plans.
• Utilize design tools such as PLS CADD, PLS Pole, PLS Tower, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D to complete project work and update drawings.
• Inspect and assess transmission line assets and review developments within transmission rights-of-way.
• Perform additional related duties and work outside typical business hours as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• At least 5+ years of progressively responsible work experience in the design, construction, or maintenance of civil/structural assets.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PLS CADD, PLS Pole, and PLS Tower.
• Strong understanding of project management, contract administration, and engineering standards (ASCE, ACI, NESC, CPUC General Orders).
• Ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional registration in Civil and/or Structural Engineering in the state of California.
• Experience with transmission systems operating above 69kV.
