Job Description

Position Overview

We are hiring a Surgical Tech in Hamden, CT! In this role you will assist in surgical and invasive procedures by preparing and providing sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment. You will maintain a sterile field and proactively support the surgical team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Function as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures
  • Protect the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources
  • Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and machinery and follow procedures for reporting and correcting unsafe situations
  • Perform accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items
  • Speak up with safety concerns and act as the patient’s advocate
  • Handle specimens according to facility policy and procedures
  • Adhere to standard precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment
  • Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels
  • Perform interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection
  • Assemble supplies and equipment required for the procedure
  • Prepare and organize sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure
  • Provide instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure
  • Protect the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy
  • Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice
  • Maintain a fire-safe environment
  • Practice and monitor aseptic technique
  • Comply with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy
  • Maintain radiation safety at all times in accordance with facility policies and procedures
  • Clean and prepare surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas
  • Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes
  • Provide hand-off reports to teammates that are accurate, concise, and pertinent to the patient’s condition and response to care
  • Document episodes of care accurately, timely, completely, and legibly
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team and other stakeholders
