Position Overview

This opportunity with the ECMO core team involves every third weekend work and some on-call responsibilities. You will be responsible for ECMO circuit assembly, priming, and emergency procedures (including cannulation) while providing age/developmentally appropriate care within a family-centered environment. You will practice in accordance with the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model, the ANA Code of Ethics, and other professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Follows the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care.
- Gathers and synthesizes assessment data to determine the patient/family plan of care and to identify tasks for delegation.
- Recognizes and seeks resources to detect clinical changes indicative of patient deterioration, utilizing the CAT team when appropriate.
- Collaborates with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate all facets of patient care.
- Develops, implements, and revises the patient’s plan of care on admission and throughout hospitalization, ensuring outcomes and interventions are clearly defined.
- Coordinates care across the continuum by effectively utilizing case management resources.
- Adheres to evidence-based practice bundles and nursing standards to eliminate preventable patient harm.
- Identifies and addresses ethical dilemmas or moral distress, seeking appropriate resources to resolve issues.
- Demonstrates competence in teaching patients and families, progressing to an expert educator role.
- Evaluates and documents care provided on each assigned shift.
- Rapidly adopts and implements clinical practice changes as required.
- Documents the evaluation of nursing interventions and outcomes in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Follows safe hand-off practices as defined in patient care standards.
- Exemplifies safety behaviors for error prevention and communicates potential safety concerns to leadership.
- Utilizes effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques to empathically interact with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Encourages patient/family self-advocacy.
- Works as an effective member of the interdisciplinary care team, promoting a culture of mutual respect and collaboration.
- Actively participates in patient care rounds/meetings and contributes recommendations for the plan of care.
- Incorporates evidence-based practice into clinical care in collaboration with team members.
- Develops effective partnerships with ancillary staff and delegates tasks to ensure comprehensive care.
- Maintains professional, therapeutic relationships with patients and families, ensuring actions are always in their best interest.
- Models professional appearance and behavior to promote a positive nursing image.

Required Qualifications
- Education: Technical Diploma Nursing
- Experience Required: At least one (1) year RN experience
- Licenses and Certifications: Must have a valid RN license (state licensing as applicable) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Experience Required: Prior experience in pediatrics or a related specialty
