Job Description

Position Overview

Since H-E-B Digital Technology's inception, we've been investing heavily in our customers' digital experience, reinventing how they find inspiration from food, how they make food decisions, and how they ultimately get food into their homes. This is an exciting time to join H-E-B Digital, where we’re hiring across the stack: front-end web and mobile, full-stack, and backend engineering.

The Software Engineering Manager manages professional individual contributors and/or supervisors with significant autonomy. In this role, you'll raise your team by developing individual careers, addressing team challenges, and mentoring potential future leaders. You will work closely with product, design, and other engineering leaders to prioritize work and ensure high-quality, repeatable technology delivery. Additionally, you will oversee sprint ceremonies, deliverable reporting, and HR responsibilities including hiring, performance reviews, and terminations. Your decisions, based on business objectives and resource allocation, will directly impact departmental and company-wide success.

As H-E-B grows, we are looking for a leader with a passion for people, a head for business, and a drive for results to guide discussions, remove roadblocks, and empower teams across departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage activities for two or more departments, exercising supervision over costs, methods, and staffing to meet business objectives.
  • Lead sprint ceremonies, monitor deliverables, and oversee HR responsibilities including hiring, performance reviews, promotions, and terminations.
  • Coach, mentor, and empower team members while developing technical roadmaps and ensuring alignment with business priorities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, product and design teams, and other engineering leaders to deliver high-quality, scalable digital experiences.
  • Implement strategic policies, drive process improvements, troubleshoot complex issues, and develop documentation and training materials.
  • Communicate effectively with direct reports, peer leaders, and senior executives to present results and recommendations.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor or Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience leading successful projects and mentoring teams.
  • Experience Required: 5+ years of experience managing projects, processes, or people, with a proven track record in leadership and technical oversight.
