Job Description
Position Overview
GFT is currently seeking an Entry Level Structural Design Engineer to join our Buildings and Places Group in Baltimore, MD. In this full-time, in-office role, you will work closely with Project Managers on a variety of project sizes and complexities, contributing to creating efficient, innovative, and sustainable structural solutions. As part of a dynamic team at a privately held AEC firm, you will help shape a resilient built environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret National and Local Building Codes to determine applicable design loads.
- Perform engineering calculations using software tools and hand calculations to analyze and design building and marine structural elements including foundations, beams, columns, and equipment supports.
- Assist in modeling and analyzing lateral systems.
- Prepare project cost estimates and evaluation studies along with developing detailed reports.
- Develop comprehensive structural drawings using Revit, AutoCAD, and MicroStation ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
- Evaluate and analyze existing structures for retrofits and rehabilitations.
- Participate in field inspections for facilities and transit-related structures as required.
- Review submittals including structural steel fabrication drawings, concrete reinforcement drawings, and concrete mix designs.
- Utilize structural computer analysis, graphical software packages, and MS Office to support project needs.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) or Architectural Engineering (Structural Option) from an ABET accredited institution.
- 0-2 years of structural design experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (required).
- Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with structural analysis and CADD programs such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, REVIT, RAM, TEDDS, ETABS, and STAADPRO is preferred.
- Basic understanding of building codes and industry standards (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASCE).
- Excellent teamwork, attention to detail, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and US Citizenship.
Compensation:
Salary: The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $85,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
