Job Description

Position Overview

AECOM is seeking a talented and experienced Design Manager to oversee a variety of semiconductor manufacturing and advanced manufacturing projects – including master planning, detailed design, and construction administration. This hands-on, client-facing role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile, fast-paced projects for global clients. The position is based out of any AECOM office within the US and offers remote work flexibility, with a hybrid work situation available near regional offices and some travel expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the semiconductor manufacturing facility design team to deliver projects that meet client requirements on schedule and with high quality, across multiple design disciplines (architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, fire protection, ICT, and BMS/EPMS).
  • Manage project resources, including onboarding and offboarding staff to ensure proper project resourcing.
  • Coordinate with both semiconductor subject matter experts in centers of excellence and local engineers to maintain seamless communication and effective project execution.
  • Host and attend meetings with clients and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify potential issues early and develop creative, effective solutions.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment that promotes comradery, collective ownership, and high performance.
  • Proactively manage and communicate changes throughout the project to ensure alignment with client and AECOM standards.
  • Oversee peer reviews and quality checks to ensure adherence to standards and client expectations.
  • Develop technical and financial proposals to support project initiatives.
  • Build and nurture trusting relationships with clients to support long-term collaboration.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering plus 10 years of relevant experience (or equivalent) including at least 2 years of leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Architecture License.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in design and/or project management.
  • 5 years of experience in semiconductor design.
  • Emotional intelligence and situational awareness with the ability to assess and adapt to professional dynamics.
  • Strong interpersonal judgment and situational adaptability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in dynamic, time-sensitive situations with minimal oversight.
  • Demonstrated team leadership, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
