Job Description

Position Overview

We are an innovative team of engineers and designers that supports projects throughout the company. Our staff leads and collaborates with Kiewit’s module fabrication and construction teams to approach construction‐driven engineering with a focus on safe, cost effective, and innovative designs that achieve client expectations and further Kiewit’s legacy of excellence.

Location: Energy Corridor Office in Houston, TX (typically less than 25% travel and flexible work opportunities available).

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs intermediate calculations under the supervision of a more senior engineer and solves problems using established scientific principles.
  • Conducts routine technical assignments with oversight from experienced personnel.
  • Develops small to mid-size projects or proposals.
  • Works with designers to develop engineering and design documents as needed.
  • Considers multiple solutions and makes decisions based on thorough data analysis.
  • Recognizes, troubleshoots, and resolves design constraints and issues while applying economic analysis for cost-effective solutions.
  • Initiates personal objective development aligned with organizational goals and seeks constructive feedback.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the design process and contributes ideas for improvement and cost reduction.
  • Questions established methods and actively seeks new and innovative approaches.
  • Utilizes codes and standards to complete assignments and manages scope changes to stay within budget and schedule.
  • Maintains a focus on customer needs and performs work efficiently to maximize productivity.
  • Leads quality checks on design and engineering outputs to ensure accuracy and technical credibility.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (minimum required).
  • 4-10 years of relevant experience in the refining and petrochemical industry.
  • Proficiency in AutoPIPE software is a must.
  • Ability to work independently on routine assignments and receive guidance on high-risk or advanced conditions.
  • Capacity to provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop and present work effectively.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and involve others in problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated commitment to meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work standards.
