Job Description

Position Overview

The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for leading the structural engineering and design of heavy industrial projects across the power, chemical, metals, and oil & gas sectors. The role ensures that engineering deliverables are technically sound, consistent with established standards, and aligned with project schedule, cost, and MTS standards for safety, quality, and efficiency. Sr. Structural Engineers may individually contribute to a project or lead a team of engineers and designers on a project basis. Full Time Position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the creation of civil/structural engineering deliverables including the design and analysis of structural steel and foundations in the heavy industrial sector, especially power, chemical, metals, and oil & gas.
  • Advise on design principles and standards.
  • Develop and revise engineering design procedures and technical specifications.
  • Develop sketches and coordinate the completion of associated 3D models with the design team.
  • Lead Design Reviews and Lesson Learned sessions.
  • Provide cost estimating support for civil/structural proposals (hours, quantities, etc.).
  • Manage multiple projects on a continuous basis.
  • Ensure effective cross-discipline and cross-department communication and coordination.
  • Safely visit sites to walk down scope and meet with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support on construction or operating sites, as needed.
  • Offer technical oversight, mentorship, and peer review within the design team.
  • Monitor and report weekly on the status of current civil/structural design projects.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, and professional development of team personnel.
  • Communicate technical information effectively with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Effectively communicate and project the principles of the Talent Advantaged Roadmap.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil or structural engineering with experience in civil/structural design for heavy industry.
  • Professional Engineer license is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of industry standard design practices, mechanical aptitude, and general engineering principles.
  • Understanding of design code standards and specifications (ASME, ASCE, ACI, AISC, IBC).
  • Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Proficiency in structural design and analysis tools (STAAD or similar), and knowledge of 3D model tools (Advanced Steel, SDS, or similar).
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word with intermediate skills in Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective interpersonal skills at all levels within the company.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships.
  • Excellent capability to communicate technical information.
  • Possession (or ability to obtain) of OSHA 30 certification.
  • Ability to safely visit sites to assess scope and meet with internal and external stakeholders.
