Job Description

Position Overview

Working under the direction of a physician/provider, the MA Per Diem is responsible for assisting in the examination and treatment of patients while delivering high quality care and maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note: UNLV Health does not provide employment sponsorships or sponsorship transfers for any positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the examination and treatment of patients while maintaining confidentiality and delivering high quality care.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program
  • Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant Certification or Registration required (or obtained within 90 days of employment)
  • Current CPR certification (or obtained within 90 days of employment)
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of CLIA and OSHA guidelines
  • Knowledge of sterilization and disinfection procedures
  • Understanding of HIPAA laws and adherence to confidentiality policies
  • Familiarity with current Medical Assistant best practices and procedures including EKG and basic drug administration
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacology terminology and medical office procedures
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Working knowledge of patient management software and basic Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to identify and apply proper communication methods in patient instruction
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent telephone and customer service skills
  • Skills to implement safety practices to prevent exposure to workplace hazards
  • Ability to apply and modify principles, methods, and techniques of a Medical Assistant to provide ongoing patient care
  • Strong attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of medical assisting experience in an ambulatory/clinical setting
  • Familiarity with EPIC system is a plus
