Job Description

Position Overview

The University of Miami is currently seeking a Manager, Research Support to work at the Soffer Clinical Research Center in Miami. The incumbent provides grant application and management support to facilitate research. Further, the Manager, Research Support oversees research operations to ensure efficiency and compliance with applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data and maintaining databases.
  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Provides guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior research staff and students.
  • Conducts meetings with research staff and ensures functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provides technical support and resolves operational problems.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to best practices.
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings; assists in the preparation and publication of manuscripts.
  • Stays abreast of developments in the field which may impact department functions.
  • Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Acts as the interface between all aspects of the intervention and research to assist the Principal Investigator in monitoring and implementation of studies.
  • Oversees day-to-day management of studies including supervision of personnel, control of participant incentives, social network data collection, discussion group presentations, and peer counseling.
  • Oversees participant retention by maintaining ongoing contact, sustaining rapport, assessing well-being, and tracking relocations.
  • Monitors relationships with community institutions, community members, and study personnel.
  • Supervises the Lay Health Advisor and interviewers while coordinating their work and responsibilities.
  • Collects and analyzes social networks and qualitative information (focus groups and in-depth interviews).
  • Ensures all Human Subject Protection procedures are in place (consent and confidentiality).
  • Actively supervises the recruitment of potential participants.
  • Travels using personal transportation to off-campus sites for assessment-related activities.
  • Maintains accurate data on all record keeping forms.
  • Participates in training activities and implements assigned duties.
  • Makes phone calls to contact participants for assessments.
  • Transports data collection equipment.
  • Handles computers, laptops, and other equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Conducts outside activities with individuals participating in the study intervention.
  • Works with underserved Latinos and engages in outside activities with them.
  • Maintains flexibility with work schedule and is able to work with an open schedule.
  • Speaks English and Spanish.
  • Oversees laboratory equipment purchase, use, maintenance, repair, and inventory.
  • Manages service contracts.
  • Trains laboratory staff on equipment usage, laboratory techniques, and safety procedures.
  • Prepares laboratories for annual safety inspections.
  • Coordinates seminars and special activities related to research and laboratory safety.
  • Oversees the management of project implementation.
  • Collaborates with IT to ensure laboratory computers and servers run smoothly.
  • Assists with arranging laboratory guests, speakers, and recruitment visits.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of internal controls and ensures compliance with University policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
