Senior Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure

Position Overview

Working in our San Francisco office, you’ll enjoy a hybrid work environment with at least two coordinated in-office days per week (Wednesday and Thursday) and up to four weeks per year of fully remote work, combined with a culture that supports growth, diversity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the multi-region rollout of our EKS fleet and Istio service mesh.
• Drive RDS Postgres and Aurora high-availability strategy, including cross-region replication.
• Design Terraform modules that provision VPC, IAM, and networking in minutes.
• Mentor engineers across Brex on cloud-native best practices.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building or operating production cloud infrastructure on AWS.
• Deep Kubernetes experience (ideally EKS), including cluster bootstrap and day-2 operations.
• Strong PostgreSQL/Aurora operational knowledge including backups, failover, and performance tuning.
• Expertise in Terraform (or equivalent IaC) with an eye for clean module design.
• Solid programming skills in Go or Python.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Istio or another service-mesh in production.
• Knowledge of multi-region, multi-cluster topologies.
• Background in chaos engineering or leading game-day facilitation.
• Exposure to Fintech, PCI, or SOC2-regulated environments.
• Prior mentoring or tech-lead responsibilities.

• Compensation: The expected salary range for this role is $192,000 - $240,000. Base pay will depend on location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Equity and other forms of compensation may also be provided.
