Job Description

Position Overview

The Cloud Database Operations Intern provides technical assistance with database installations, upgrades, patches, monitoring, troubleshooting for major RDBMS databases (such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.). The role involves supporting database deployments, container management, and ensuring adherence to security protocols, change control, and audit requirements across supported environments. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in database management and operations within a dynamic, supportive, and remote work setting (United States, Pacific Time Zone only). The program is a 10‑week summer internship (Tuesday, May 27th to Friday, August 8th, 2025) requiring a commitment of 40 full‑time hours per week during usual business hours (8AM–6PM ET).

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on IT assignments of moderate difficulty under the direction of a senior mentor.
  • Escalate issues and questions to management as necessary.
  • Participate in group discussions and meetings to gain process knowledge and guidance on assigned projects.
  • Read, understand, and perform assignments within prescribed guidelines while approaching challenges with a critical thinking and customer service mindset.
  • Prepare standard reports and presentation materials.
  • Utilize automation and pipelines to efficiently build and manage databases.
  • Support the team in setting up monitoring configurations, creating alerts, and implementing anomaly detection.
  • Promptly respond to alerts for cloud databases and leverage automation to streamline repetitive tasks.
  • Help adhere to the organization's security policies when creating databases, security groups, VPCs, etc., and follow change control policies.
  • Assist in managing Service Now and Jira tickets within defined SLAs.
  • Support internal and external audits related to database users, roles, and security, and assist in addressing security exceptions.
  • Contribute to the organization’s disaster recovery efforts, design reviews, and documentation maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in a related field (systems, technical, engineering, analytics, or similar).
  • Must have completed 2 years of coursework.
  • Good organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with basic principles, theories, and concepts in IT.

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of database concepts and SQL.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
