Position Overview
Aerospace Stress Engineer position located in Location: Wichita, KS. Salary: $78/hour. This Contract role (12 months with potential for extension) in the Aerospace / Defense / Aviation industry involves detailed stress analysis of metallic and composite fuselage components, review of design changes, and generation of substantiation reports. You will collaborate with design engineers, team leads, suppliers, and management to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements. Candidates must meet ITAR guidelines and possess the required education and experience for the role. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and prioritize work to meet project deliverables.
- Perform detailed stress analysis of metallic and composite fuselage components using classical hand calculations and Finite Element methods (FEA).
- Review and analyze design changes, including fatigue, static, and DT loads.
- Generate stress substantiation reports.
- Develop or review structural qualification plans per OEM standards and regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve vendor drawings, stress reports, and test reports as needed.
- Coordinate with design engineers, team leads, suppliers, and management to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Present stress findings and challenge design solutions during design reviews.
- Compile progress reports to communicate deliverable objectives.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and sense of urgency in completing assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Structural, or Design Engineering.
- 3–5 years of experience in aerospace stress engineering.
- Experience with metallic and composite structures.
- Proficiency in static, fatigue, and transient analysis using classical methods and Finite Element methods (FEA).
- Hands-on experience with Nastran, Patran, Abaqus, or similar analysis tools.
- Strong knowledge of Engineering Mechanics and Strength of Materials.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project PC tools.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen (as defined by ITAR).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with fuselage structures.
- Experience reviewing vendor documentation and structural qualification plans.
- Ability to coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
