Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated PATIENT CARE TECH - MOBILITY TECH to join our team on the Surgical Specialty floor at UT Southwestern in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. Schedule: Mon - Fri | 8 Hr. Shifts | Rotating Weekends. In this role, you will assist with ambulation for post-surgical patients to help reduce the risk of postoperative complications and accelerate recovery. You will work in conjunction with nursing staff to deliver safe, compassionate care. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care under the direction of nursing staff, ensuring tasks are performed only when training and competency have been validated.
  • Collect, monitor, and document pertinent data such as intake and output, weight, temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure; report abnormal values immediately.
  • Perform patient rounding and report any changes in a patient's condition or behavior promptly to the nurse.
  • Assess and address environmental, patient, and family needs in a respectful and timely manner.
  • Deliver basic hygiene care including pericare, oral care, daily hygiene, linen changes, skin changes, and foley care as per nursing policies and unit standards.
  • Transfer and transport patients in accordance with policies, taking age-specific and safety needs into account.
  • Resolve patient concerns, initiating service recovery and escalating issues through the chain of command as necessary.
  • Foster sustainable relationships through open communication with the healthcare team.
  • Prepare, update, and disseminate patient reports during shift changes and whenever patient conditions change.
  • Support the administrative and clinical operations of the assigned practice environment.
  • Orient new staff and students, collaborating with nursing staff to maintain a quality work environment.
  • Utilize downtime to assist colleagues and offer additional support to patients and their families.
  • Perform the role of sitter as needed and document accordingly.
  • Maintain current compliance with ongoing annual education requirements including modules, classes, and competencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience Required: Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English, have familiarity with medical terminology, and possess basic computer software skills. Applicants should have 1 year of acute care inpatient hospital experience in the role preferred, or hold a certified nursing assistant certificate with relevant experience, or have completed the PCT residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, or completed a Nursing Fundamentals and skills course in nursing school.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required. Validation of required core competencies and training must be achieved within 6 months of employment.
