Job Description
Position Overview
As a supervisor/manager, the selectee for this position will be eligible to receive a Manager Performance Incentive (MPI) provided eligibility requirements noted in agency policy are met. The MPI is an annual lump-sum incentive payment that considers agency performance, the manager's individual performance, and available funding.
Incumbent serves as the first-level manager to an assigned workforce consisting of technicians, engineers, and support personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Directs the work of subordinate employees at the organizational unit level and provides leadership, direction, and guidance in the management and execution of organizational objectives.
- Oversees routine project/program tasks based on established policies, procedures, and guidelines, including setting priorities, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, coaching, and developing employee capabilities.
- Manages the assigned budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish project/program objectives, including budget planning and requests for additional resources.
- Performs professional engineering and/or project management work with a focus that may be local, regional, or national, applying both engineering principles and management practices while maintaining schedules and formulating policies.
- Resolves routine problems independently, consulting higher-level management for complex issues when established guidelines are not applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Requirements: US Citizenship is required; Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959; must submit an SF50 along with all required documents; and a one-year supervisor/managerial probationary period may be required.
- Qualifications: Successful completion of a full 4-year professional engineering curriculum leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in engineering from an accredited college or university (ABET accreditation preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including evidence of professional registration, passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) exam, or completion of at least 60 semester hours in related courses. Applicants must also demonstrate 52 weeks of specialized experience at the FV-J (FG/GS 14) level or its equivalent.
