Job Description

Position Overview

Join UChicago Medicine’s world‐class academic healthcare system as a Music Therapist at Comer Children’s Hospital. In this role you will provide psychosocial support to children and families during hospitalizations, surgeries, and outpatient visits by using music therapy to promote socialization, develop coping skills, enhance self‐esteem, and facilitate positive adjustment.

Position Details: Full-Time (1.0 FTE), Days (Monday-Friday), Onsite at Comer Children’s Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement a comprehensive therapeutic music program for individuals and groups.
  • Utilize music to establish treatment goals and facilitate effective interventions.
  • Promote family-centered care by involving parents, caregivers, siblings, and other family members.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to develop tailored therapeutic plans.
  • Educate parents and staff to ensure a supportive therapeutic environment.
  • Provide leadership in team meetings, clinical consultations, rounds, and departmental committees.
  • Engage in program development, in-services, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and manage resources in accordance with department guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy.
  • Current professional Board Certification (MT-BC, RMT, CMT, or ACMT) by the American Music Therapy Association.
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Strong knowledge of human development and therapeutic intervention techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Music Therapy.
  • Internship in art therapy with hospitalized children and adolescents.
