Job Description
Position Overview
Assist department in the general duties performed daily within the department. The role involves transporting patients from the front desk, providing directions for exams, filling out paperwork for procedures and chaperoned exams when necessary. You will work in a fast-paced environment, preparing patients for tests with an emphasis on being detail oriented, multi-tasking, and having strong communication and organizational skills. The position requires spending a majority of time on your feet, walking considerable distances, and handling medical records while transporting patients. You may also access the computer to scan and verify appointment times for patients and perform other job-related duties as needed for the efficient operation of SDMI.
Key Responsibilities
- Escort patients (by walking or wheelchair) from the admitting area to the waiting room, assist with changing, provide paperwork, and prescreen when applicable.
- Ensure that any event, occurrence, or risk is reported by completing an occurrence report within 24 hours.
- Log patients on schedule, and check referrals while dispersing paperwork in the Tech Area.
- Scan paperwork and prepare schedules and paperwork in advance, checking paperwork two days prior and confirming next day’s appointments via phone calls.
- Assist with copying, ordering forms and supplies, maintaining clean waiting and changing rooms, and supporting medical techs as necessary.
- Escort patients between departments for additional tests, provide assistance with rescheduling and refunds, and complete daily tasks such as shredding paperwork.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, technologists, and radiologists to ensure proper care and information delivery.
- Submit requests to obtain reports and/or films from other facilities when needed.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent; previous medical experience is preferred.
- Ability to organize time effectively and adjust to changes in workload and assignments.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks.
- Effective use of supplies, equipment, cleaning, and disinfecting procedures.
- A positive response to changes in assignments and priorities, and willingness to participate in cross-training for professional growth.
- Team player with effective communication skills and punctuality in reporting to work as per SDMI attendance policy.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials, fire and evacuation plans, and electrical safety.
- Compliance with Universal Protection standards, as well as SDMI safety, radiation, and evacuation guidelines.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete all functions before the end of the shift.
